Founder

Roland Murphy – Founder & CEO

Roland Murphy is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the United States Disability Chamber of Commerce (USDCC). A Retired Chief Petty Officer of the United States Navy, Roland dedicated more than two decades of service to his country before retiring with disabilities of his own.

The inspiration for USDCC came from something deeply personal. Roland’s two sisters and nephew all battled Huntington’s disease—a hereditary condition with no cure. While the disease spared Roland himself, it shaped his life profoundly. As a guardian and caregiver, he watched his loved ones search for meaningful ways to remain active, connected, and productive, even as their health declined.

This experience revealed a gap: people with disabilities often want—and deserve—to stay engaged in business and community life, but existing systems rarely provide the pathways. Determined to change that, Roland began reaching out to traditional chambers of commerce across the United States, asking if they would establish a disability department to connect people with disabilities to member businesses. Out of the 35 chambers he approached, not one agreed.

Great Community Impact

USDCC drives community impact by empowering disability-owned businesses to thrive and lead in an inclusive economy.

Inclusive employers this is the time to hire people with disabilities.

There are an estimated 9.4 million entrepreneurs with disabilities across the U.S., representing 28% of all business owners and generating nearly half a trillion dollars in annual sales. People with disabilities are 1.3 times more likely to start businesses than those without disabilities, and when they do, they are more likely to hire W-2 employees, twice as likely to leverage generative AI, and deeply committed to mission and community impact. Yet entrepreneurs with disabilities continue to face deep gaps in health coverage, financing, and support.

Why it matters

Entrepreneurs with disabilities don’t just build businesses — they create jobs, drive local economies, and shape more inclusive communities. But without equitable access to capital, health coverage, and essential support, too many face avoidable barriers that stifle growth and innovation. This new data gives us more comprehensive insights to better support these business owners and build an economy that truly works for everyone. Please view webinar for more insights.

How AI Is Opening Doors for Disability Employment

For decades, people with disabilities have faced barriers to meaningful employment. These barriers are more than physical—outdated systems, inaccessible hiring platforms, and unconscious bias have all contributed to an unemployment rate that remains unacceptably high. The old model of “posting and praying” on job boards simply doesn’t work for everyone. But what if artificial intelligence (AI) could change that? That’s the vision driving the United States Disability Chamber of Commerce (USDCC)—the first national disability chamber of commerce dedicated to helping people with disabilities build businesses, secure jobs, and access opportunities that were once out of reach. By combining AI prompting with workforce development expertise, USDCC is reimagining what inclusive employment looks like. The Problem: Barriers That Won’t Go Away Job seekers with disabilities often encounter challenges before they even get to an interview. Digital inaccessibility: Many hiring platforms are not screen-reader friendly or designed with diverse users in mind. Bias in recruiting: Resumes with employment gaps or assistive technology references are often screened out before a human ever sees them. Outdated tools: Job boards and traditional workforce systems often don’t support personalized, adaptive learning and career navigation. The result? Millions of talented workers are overlooked—not because they lack skills, but because the system isn’t built for them. The Solution: AI Prompting as an Equalizer AI prompting is the practice of crafting smart, targeted instructions for AI tools to deliver the most useful results. Think of it as teaching a digital assistant to be your personal career coach. At USDCC, AI prompting is being used to: Rewrite resumes with impact. A plain statement like “Worked in customer service” can be transformed into “Increased customer satisfaction scores by 27% through fast, empathetic support.” Prepare for interviews. AI-powered practice bots simulate common questions, coach body language, and provide instant feedback. Build career pathways. Our AI learning systems guide job seekers through step-by-step training, from digital literacy to advanced certifications. Connect to inclusive employers. Matching algorithms highlight businesses actively committed to disability inclusion. Deploy AI job-scouting agents. Imagine having your own AI recruiter—an agent that scours the internet 24/7 for job postings, filters them against your skills and resume, and delivers only the opportunities that fit you best. No more endless scrolling through irrelevant job boards. For job seekers, this means turning smartphones into gateways for opportunity. For businesses, it means access to an underutilized, highly motivated talent pool. Why Businesses Should Care This shift isn’t just about inclusion—it’s about strategy. Companies that embrace disability hiring gain: A stronger workforce. Employees with disabilities bring problem-solving skills, resilience, and perspectives that fuel innovation. Better compliance. ADA and accessibility standards are evolving. Proactive inclusion reduces legal and reputational risk. Real ROI. Research shows diverse teams are more productive and creative, directly boosting the bottom line. By tapping into AI-powered hiring pipelines, businesses can close skills gaps while advancing equity. A Chamber Built for the Future The USDCC is more than a network—it’s an engine for economic growth. Our initiatives include: USDCC Pathways: An AI-enabled learning management system with 180+ courses designed for career advancement. AI Whisperer Consultants: Personalized guidance for businesses and entrepreneurs on using AI responsibly and effectively. National Directory of Disability-Owned Businesses: Helping corporations source from disability-owned suppliers. AI Job-Scouting Agents: Automated systems trained to search, screen, and deliver job opportunities that align with a member’s resume and career goals. The Piranha Pool Pitch Contest (launching 2026): A Shark Tank–style platform for disability entrepreneurs to secure funding. Every program is designed to level the playing field, not just talk about it. The Call to Action The future of work is already here. It’s accessible, AI-powered, and inclusive. But it only becomes reality if businesses, policymakers, and job seekers choose to build it together. If you’re a job seeker with a disability—USDCC is your platform for empowerment. If you’re an entrepreneur—USDCC can help you scale with AI tools and supplier diversity opportunities. If you’re a business—USDCC can connect you to untapped talent and future-proof your workforce. 👉 Explore the United States Disability Chamber of Commerce and join the movement: https://usdisabilitychamber.com
